Why would you want to redesign your business?
The primary reason is that, to the extent there was any design involved in the set-up of the business, it has probably run its course and is no longer ideal for the current business conditions.
The next question is “How do you go about this?”
Much can be added to this process but for most of us the real interest is in “Where do we start?”
Without getting all Dr Seuss on you, we would say that where you are is a good place to start. This statement is saved from being an unhelpful statement of the uselessly obvious by stepping back to assess all the dimensions of your current position. It is too easy and too common to assume that we already know where we are at. But we lose perspective by being immersed in the day-to-day whirlwind of our business. We also lose perspective if things are not going well and we add stress to our emotional overload which then stains the lenses through which we are looking at the current state of play of our business.
Sometimes the quickest and best way to get perspective and a clear idea of where we are at is to bring someone in from outside the business to help us in our assessment.
